a tip on program design

If anybody asks me for a tip on program design, I'll admit i don't have many groundbreaking "wow this guy is really doing something special" tips. But i will share one now which many people overlook.

Tip: Exercise selection is the LEAST important variable in program design.

Oh but what about that new double swiss ball kettel bell swing? haha

You body responds best to changes in rep ranges. not exercises. Just for an example....

I have two identical twins A and B.

Over the course of a year, A does 12 different exercsies to improve his leg strength. but he does each exercise for the common "3 sets of 10 reps". he does squats, front squats, lunges, overhead squats, blah blah blah...

B does 1 exercise. The front squat for example. But he varies the reps and sets each month instead of the exercise. he goes 5 sets of 5, 3 sets of 12, 8 sets of 3, etc

B will be much stronger than A at the end of the year.

Is either of these programs ideal, certainly not but its just an illustration. Many people look for that magic exercise but it doesnt exist. Stick to the basics and vary the reps, sets and rest intervals instead.

Happy training!
