Result of poll. Here is my training thought - Doing your best

From the poll at a previous post, it seems that people would like to hear about training. So here we go. My thought today is about training hard. I beleive if you watched some of my sessions (and those of other expereinced and well coached lifters) you would find some of them EXTREMLY EASY and perhaps even SLACK.

Haha if you watched me today, you would be very unimpressed. I did some power cleans. working up till 90kg. and i failed at a weight i normally SMOKE 100kg... didnt get up haha bad!. And after that I did deadlifts and i failed at 205kg a weight i normally also SMOKE.

But do you know what? It was a good training session. "what!"... has CaptnJ taken a few too many micellar protein shakes on the velocity diet? mmm no. Actually to day was a day where i was working up to a single in the power clean and the deadlift. and that was the plan. And i stuck to the plan! Just that the end result was lower than ususal. I don't blame the diet. Today I only had 25 mins to train due to family commitments. And the past few nights have been shorter sleep due to me trying out a new camera hehe.

Warmup was rushed, rest was shorter and focus was on the clock to make sure I was on time for my dad's birthday dinner, recovery from thursday's session may have been incomplete. With all these things considered, I did ok in the lifts.

we must all understand that when we say "train hard" it means "HARD FOR THAT DAY" all other factors considered. Did i skip training? no i did the best with what i could. Thats the way to go about it. We can only peak a few times a month. (in fact world class guys peak 2-3 times a year at most) so dont take it too hard if every workout is not "outstanding" its ok:) its part of the journey!

As long as we are doing what we came to do e.g.
train max effort - go heavy (for that day)
train speed - go fast (for that day)
train anerobic conditioning - heart jumps out of your chest and panting to the max (for that day)
you are doing ok. This is why its impossible to follow a pre planned program... or as a coach - to MAKE one. That would mean i can see the future. I leave the future to God alone! So just do your best for that day and don't sweat it! You are doing great!
