Eating right makes a big difference!

Eating and training log!

I am pleasantly surprised. Over the past three months I have been trying to "clean-up" my diet. I have never really been a big fan of "bad food" like French fries or roti prata (yes those are bad!) but I have never eaten consistently "good food" for an extended period of time either. I love weightlifting and was a bit worried that I would get weak with any sort of stringent diet... BUT I also love sports and athletic performance. I want to jump 300cm in the standing broad jump by the end of this year, I also want to run 4.5 sec in the 40 yd (36.6m) sprint. I know I can't do these things with too much tummy jigglin around! I'm a naturally tubby guy so this was going to be interesting!

Started off in December 2005 looking like this... 92kg...
I started eating better (credit to Dr. John Bernadi and his excellent eating ideas!)

Eating often.

Eating no starchy stuff unless after training (replenish glycogen stores, after training starches don't make us fat).

Eating more fruits and vegetables (I'm starting to really like some veges, broccoli, spinach:) hehe never thought id see the day!).

Drinking only water and green tea.

Eating more protein with each meal.

Eating healthy fats from nuts and fish.

Eating un-processed foods. (best foods are from their natural packaging, things in pretty packages with shiny wrappers are usually 99% of the time BAD for us)
Now its march 2006, 3 months later and I'm glad to say that I have been about 90% adherent to such principals and things are gone well! 82 kg:)

Was really worried about strength levels as I lost so much weight! But I feel that the extra micro nutrients from the more wholesome foods really help my recovery from training. I lost no strength. Which is really excellent considering that so much bodyweight was lost. Played some full court basketball recently and running was a lot easier up and down court. Tested my lifting strength as part of maintaining muscle while losing fat, happy to say, all is well!

193kg squat (March 13 2006)

90LB dumbbells in the Bulgarian split squat for reps (march 15 2006)
Nice easy 205KG deadlift (march 15 2006) - please excuse the tan line!
More updates to come! I will be keeping this new lower weight for some time as I work on the speed and jumping.

Traning update 20 March 2006, new record barbell lunge 163kg
