Faking it?
New flowers (fresh soil at the bottom) outside suntec city. I took the pics after my Dad's birthday dinner. Its the latest happening in Singapore starting today. The International Monetary Fund people are gathering at SunTec City to discuss the relevance of the IMF in todays day and age (Among other things I suppose) But one of the things is not so much abotu modern finance and economics... but the big hoohaa about Singapore's hosting of the delegates.
1. We have a 4 million smile campaign to present a montage of 4million smile pics (to show that Singapore is a happy place)
2. Lots of new stuff like the above flowers freshly planted around the conference location
3. hehe one of my friends is a host for the delegates and he gets (on loan) a top end 3G phone just to show off. But has to return it after the conference.
Many forums, blogs, websites etc are screaming THIS IS ALL FAKE.
But its not that supprising when I think about it. And it should not be much of a supprise? Isn't it normal for most cultures to show their best stuff when guests arrive? For Chinese we have Lunar new year, Malays have Hari Raya, Western cultures have thanksgiving and christmas. Even in the ancient far east, people even entertained travelling strangers.
I don't think is as big a deal as some people make it out to be:) Being welcoming to guests is uh.. normal. And can even bring out the best in us (see i even clean my room sometimes! ahah)
