Its the "half truths" that are the most worrying
Its easy to be vigilant against outright lies. Most of us won't get fooled by those. But its the half-truths and sneaky lies that can get us into real trouble. This is the way unscrupulous advertising, scheming adversaries and even the devil himself get us to make wrong choices. Check out the videos below. I found them very entertaining.
Lets say I was not a "Techie-boy", I think I would almost certainly give some of those methods a try! The guy looks like a scientist tech dude, he speaks like one, and GASP - He even has the screen shots to "prove" his points! Charts and tables... he's got those too!
Isn't this the same as what goes on in the health and fitness industry? Put a few pretty girls or fit looking guys on an ad, put together some unverifiable pseudo science studies, dress the speaker in a lab coat and "guarantee" results. "Ta-da" you have a money making product. Some products that fall into this scam category are:
- All kinds of vibrating nonsense (belts, floors, seats)
- Most supplements (besides fish oil, protein, amino acids and vitamins, most of the others are scarily useless)
- Fat loss programs based on long slow jogging/swimming/cycling
- Muscle gain programs based on weak movements like bicep curls
